Bosses Day

National Boss Day is a secular holiday celebrated on October 16th in the United States. The day is emphasizes our appreciation towards our bosses for being fair and kind throughout the year.

The origin of Boss' Day can be traced back to 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Haroski was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois. While working she became aware of the challenges her boss, who also happened to be her father, had to face at work. In order to show her admiration and respect for her boss (and father), she birthed the idea of Boss' Day, which would honor bosses across the country. She chose her dad's birthday, October 16th, as the date. If it falls on a weekend, it is then celebrated on the work day closest to the 16th.

In recent years National Boss Day has gained importance internationally and is observed in countries such as England, Australia, and South Africa.
